Q: Do your reading habits change based on your mood? Do you read a certain genre if you are feeling depressed or happy?

A: Definitely! I typically find myself reading genres that match my mood. If I’m in a happy mood I’m totally into the chick-lit or a good historical romance. If I’m in darker mood I’ll usually want to read a good mystery-thriller or scary book. This isn’t always accurate though, I’m usually pretty all over the place with my reading habits anyways. 🙂

Q: Summer Reading. What was your favorite book that you were REQUIRED to read when you were in school?

A: It’s so strange when I look back on what was required reading for me. For some reason I seemed to have missed SO MANY that normally everyone was required to read. Either I have completely blocked them from memory or my school system sucked. Regardless! There are a few from my early school days, high school, and college that I truly enjoyed.

Dystopian 101. This is one of my all-time favorites from my early school days. There are some books that stick with me and this is definitely one of them.

We did a huge project off of this from what I remember in my sophomore year of high school. Can’t remember what on earth I wrote my paper on but I just remember loving this book. I ended up having to read it again for my Ancient and Medieval Cultures class in college.

Another book I had to read for my Ancient and Medieval Cultures class. Don’t ask me why but I loved this short story. I always sold my textbooks immediately after finishing classes (because I was a broke-ass college student and kind of liked to eat) but I still have my copy of this on my bookshelf.

Q: Christmas in July! Someone gives you a gift card for two books (whatever that costs). What two books will you buy?

A: Ooooh… two? Wait. I have like… hundreds on my wishlist. Okay, okay, only 2. *SIGH*

My two selections are the two books I’m most looking forward to releasing the second-half of 2012.

The Twelve (The Passage #2)
by Justin Cronin
Expected publication: October 16th 2012 by Ballantine Books

Iced: A Dani O’Malley Novel (Fever World #1)
by Karen Marie Moning
Expected publication: October 30th 2012 by Delacorte Press

There are no words to describe how excited I am for both of these books. The Passage was positively mesmerizing and I can’t wait to see how the author continues the series. And Iced? Well. Need I explain?

Q: Fight! Fight! If you could have two fictional characters battle it out (preferably from books), who would they be and who do you think would win?

A: hahaha Okay so this question was a lot of fun. Put a werewolf and a vampire against one another? A demon up against a witch? So many possibilities! I ended up settling on two of my favorite fictional badass characters:

Kate Daniels (Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews) and Merit (Chicagoland Vampires Series by Chloe Neill)

There is no disputing the fact that both of these chicks are serious badasses and can take care of business. But what if they battled each other? Kate is a mercenary with a bad attitude and a love for killing things. Merit is a vampire and Sentinel of the Cadogan house and is strong-minded and sharp-witted. Both just so happen to wield a wicked sword.

Considering that both of these series rank high in my all-time favorites this wasn’t an easy answer! But if both of these girls fought it out I’d have to give it to Kate Daniels. I feel that she’s proved herself by being in some pretty tough situations and has handled vampires, werewolves, and anything else thrown at her.

Q: Have you ever bought a book BECAUSE of a bad review?

A: Well, the simple answer is no, I have not bought a book specifically because of a bad review although I do believe I have checked a book out from my library just to check it out to see what all the fuss is about. I don’t often spend money on books (my local librarians often see me multiple times a week and know me by name haha) and when I do purchase books they are ones that are ones I truly wish to own.

Q: Do you read one book at a time or do you switch back and forth between two or more?

A: I don’t think my Currently Reading shelf has ever had just a single book; I always have at least two going on at once. The way it usually works is I’m reading a library book/real book, an ebook, and sometimes even an audiobook. It can be difficult sometimes to switch back and forth but it helps me get more reading done since I can’t always read a library book/real book at work but I can sometimes squeeze in some audiobook time. 🙂

Q: What is the longest book you’ve read? What are your favorite 600+ page reads?

A: I’d easily say my favorite 600+ reads have been the entire Outlander series. This is one amazing series that are HUGE books but well worth the time and effort in my opinion. I usually avoid huge books like the plague because they can be extremely hard to get through but this series even worth a re-read some day down the road.

Other long but favorite books I’ve read include the newer (and longer) Harry Potter’s and the first book in the Game of Throne series.

Q: What is the best book you’ve read in the last month? What is the worst book you’ve read in the last month?

A: I have actually added TWO books in the past month to my All Time Favorites shelf so I’m considering it a tie.

Both of these books were ah-mazing and I can’t say enough positive things. Sophie Kinsella is one of my all-time favorite authors and she didn’t disappoint. Robin LaFevers definitely has a new fan in my and I’ll be checking out more of her work for sure.

The worst book I’ve read in the past month?
I wouldn’t call it the worst book but rather the biggest disappointment. It wasn’t horrible but I was definitely expecting more than I got.

Q: Define what characteristics your favorite books share?
A: I don’t think there’s one single characteristic that is shared with all of my favorite books as they are all quite different. I can say that most of my favorite books have a strong storyline that I watch building as I turn the pages. Strong storylines help me get wrapped up in the story and feel like I’m actually there, living it. It’s also incredibly important for me to have not necessarily strong characters, but ones that definitely leave an impression with me and ones where I actually care whether they stick around in the land of the living or not.

It can also really depend upon my mood what I end up loving ‘at the moment’. Sometimes I really need to read about some badass chick that can kick some serious ass and sometimes I just want to read about a girl that falls madly in love with the hero.

Q: Which book genre do you avoid at all costs and why?
A: I do my best to mix it up every once in a while and try something new so there’s not a particular genre I avoid completely. But since I have to answer the question, if there’s one genre that I don’t prefer over all others it’d be a tie between paranormal romance and science fiction. PR just doesn’t do it for me and I even like romance novels, but when you throw in supernatural creatures it just goes down the drain for me. And Science Fiction… when there are 90 different characters who have names I can’t pronounce and they live on strange planets it loses all appeal.
