I moved to a new state a few months ago so my bestie thought that on top of our buddy reading we should do some buddy watching. Our first buddy binge was the new Sabrina and I must say, it was quite entertaining and not what I was expecting. I didn’t much care for the graphic novel actually so I was glad to see that they didn’t follow (the first volume at least) completely.
I haven’t got any new books in WEEKS. I know, I know, who the fuck abducted my ass.
Last Week’s… Obsession
This show was superb. Natasha Lyonne was amazing and as my bestie so perfectly puts it, it’s like a dark version of The Good Place. There are only 8 episodes and they’re all less than 30 minutes long. I watched the entire season in a single day and if you know anything about me, I simply don’t binge watch things. But I binged the shit out of this. Seriously, stop whatever other crap you’re watching and start this immediately.
I didn’t start this one immediately but as soon as I did, I caught up quick. It’s a real slow burn and seems a bit boring at first but knowing how the previous seasons went, there are all sorts of shockers to come.
I usually have a hard time with podcasts because in my mind, if I have the time to listen to a podcast, I should really be listening to a book. Ahh, the struggles of being something of a productive book blogger. Well, last week I finally decided to dedicate some time to finishing season 2 of Serial (waaayyy behind, I know) so that I can get around to the newest season eventually. I also took the time to clean up all the dozens of podcasts I was subscribed to so that I can make picking a podcast less overwhelming when I do get the urge. I got rid of all of my “fictional” podcasts because those are super not my thing. A few of the podcasts that made the cut: Serial (of course), Criminal, Casefile, Death in Ice Valley, and a new addition (because I loved Dirty John so much) Dr. Death.
Do you listen to podcasts? Have you listened to any of these?
I’m crazy behind on my Marvel Netflix shows but decided it was finally time to start working at it what with the new announcement about Daredevil season 3! It’s being released October 12th which means I have waaay less time to catch up than I thought I did. I’m working on Season 2 of Jessica Jones now and I’ll still need to watch Luke Cage (s2) and Iron Fist (s2). lol Yeah, I won’t be caught up in time.
Tuesday night I was sitting at home in my PJs, calmly scrolling through Instagram when I came across this post. I screamed and ran to put some pants on. There were only 4 left by the time I got there but I’m now the proud owner of signed copies of The Raven Boys and Blue Lily, Lily Blue. Totally worth putting pants on. <3
I’ve been participating with #RiotGrams and it’s been a ton of fun. Somedays it’s hard to come up with post ideas and Bookstagram challenges really help. Do you participate in any other Bookstagram challenges? I’d love to hear about them!
I’m continuing to procrastinate from packing by writing this post and trying to come up with some vacation reading list. I think I’ve decided that there’s simply going to be too much to see/do and that a reading list might not be the best idea. I’ve got quite a long flight in case sleep doesn’t happen though so I’d like to at least knock out the books I’ve been reading for too long as it is. And on that note, I’ll have some posts go up but ultimately I’m going to be absent until about mid-July. I’ll be back to talk about my adventures then. 🙂
I had been slowly chipping away at Parts Unknown on Netflix (I loved the first episode, but then promptly forgot). For obvious reasons, I was reminded of this wonderful show, as well as the fact that it’s due to leave Netflix on the 16th of this month so I’ve been watching as many as I can. Bourdain had such an avid fascination with experiencing the world that is simply wonderful to watch.
I started getting back into the world of Bookstagram and I had a lot of fun coming home from work and setting up some fun shots whilst battling the shit light in my house. lol I’m not the best at it and will be far from a regular poster but it’s something that I find enjoyment in and that’s enough for me.
I had no idea that Korn’s Jonathan Davis was doing his own thing these days until Basic Needs popped up on my New Release Radar on Spotify. The majority of music produced from lead singers branching off to do their new thing doesn’t really seem to work *cough*Aaron Lewis*cough* but this song is one I can listen on repeat.
I haven’t been listening to audiobooks lately but I had to put a stop to that slump because Only Human released on May 1st. All three of these books have some of the best audiobook narration ever and the story is all sorts of fun.
I’ve used Kindle Unlimited a few times and there’s never quite enough for me to read that makes the $9.99 a month worth it. But when I got an e-mail today offering me 3 months for $1.99, well, I jumped on it. These 5 are the ones I think I’m going to try to prioritize (yes, that really is the most stereotypical romance cover I’ve ever seen–you know which one–but it’s been getting great reviews so I’ll give it a shot). I find their search catalog to be somewhat difficult to find good titles. Any recommendations?
Work has been crazy hectic lately so I haven’t even been able to enjoy my normally loved music without it giving me a headache. Mello, ambient/instrumental playlists paired with rainy mood is such a lovely combination.
Indie Bookstore Day was yesterday! My city really only has one participating bookstore which is an absolute shame but it’s still something I look forward to every year. This years’ grab bag included two books I’m especially excited about: The Power by Naomi Alderman and The Dark Lake by Sarah Bailey.
When I was younger, my dream was to become a forensic scientist, so true crime and especially situations such as this where, through DNA, a case is solved decades later, it’s fascinating to me. McNamara does a superb job of presenting her years-long research in a truly riveting form. I haven’t been able to put this down and it’s really such a shame that she wasn’t able to see her determination in keeping the memory for the Golden State Killers crimes alive long enough to see him finally captured.
