Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish
Because Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, today’s Top Ten Tuesday is dedicated to the lovey dovey. The following are some of my favorite swoony lines from literature.
“I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.”
–“Sonnett XVII,” by Pablo Neruda
“When the day shall come that we do part,” he said softly, and turned to look at me, “if my last words are not ‘I love you’-ye’ll ken it was because I didna have time.”
—Diana Gabaldon, Outlander
“We loved with a love that was more than love.”
—Edgar Allan Poe, “Annabel Lee”
“Always.”
—J.K. Rowling, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”
“You’re the light in all this madness.”
—Karina Halle, “Lying Season”
“If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you.”
—A.A. Milne, “Winnie the Pooh”
“I’ve never had a moment’s doubt. I love you. I believe in you completely. You are my dearest one. My reason for life.”
—Ian McEwan, “Atonement”
“His lips tasted cool and sharp, peppermint, winter, but his hands, soft on the back of my neck, promised long days and summer and forever.”
― Maggie Stiefvater, “Shiver”
“I’d know you in the dark,” he said. “From a thousand miles away. There’s nothing you could become that I haven’t already fallen in love with.”
― Rainbow Rowell, “Attachments”
“My soul sees its equal in you.”
― Renee Ahdieh, “The Wrath and the Dawn”
Swoon indeed.
Attachments is one of my favorite books, and I’m currently reading Outlander. Reading that quote from Attachments makes me want to reread it.
