I’ve been a huge fan of Harry Potter since forever, but I’ve never actually taken the time to list out exactly why. Just because okay?! It’s just hard to put my love into words. 🙂 But, here are just a few of the many, many reasons why Harry Potter will always hold a special place in my heart (in no particular order):
Friendship
“We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided.”
Harry, Ron, and Hermione always shared the most magical friendship that wasn’t perfect but made you wish you had a group of friends you could rely on just like that.
Family
“You think the dead we loved ever truly leave us? You think that we don’t recall them more clearly than ever in times of great trouble? Your father is alive in you, Harry, and shows himself most plainly when you have need of him.”
Family was also such an integral part to the story and to the evolution of the characters. Between their house families, the Dursley’s, Harry’s deceased parents, the Weasley’s, Sirius Black, and even Hagrid, those stories always showed how the families you’re born to and the families you choose to make for yourself shape who you become.
The Magic
“You’re a wizard, Harry.”
While the first book isn’t my favorite, there is something everlasting about the moment when Harry discovers magic in the world and that he’s capable of it. Makes you feel that anything is truly possible.
“Villains”
“We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.”
Even the supposed villains have a complexity about them that makes them worthy of our sympathies. Snape and Draco immediately come to mind but this rule definitely doesn’t apply to Voldemort or Dolores Umbridge.
The Teachers/The Classes
“Don’ you worry, Harry. You’ll learn fast enough. Everyone starts at the beginning at Hogwarts, you’ll be just fine. Just be yerself. I know it’s hard. Yeh’ve been singled out, an’ that’s always hard. But yeh’ll have a great time at Hogwarts — I did — still do, ’smatter of fact.”
Seriously, McGonagall may have been a hard ass but she was one awesome teacher. There were so many interesting teachers though besides McGonagall: Hagrid, Sprout, Hooch, Flitwick, and of course we can’t forget Lupin (my favorite). And oh, to live in a world where you took classes for Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration, Potions, and Care of Magical Creatures.
The World
“Welcome,” said Hagrid, “to Diagon Alley.”
Besides the magic itself, the places these characters live in sound beyond fun. Hogwarts especially but Diagon Alley, Hogsmeade, The Burrow… Harry’s first reaction to Diagon Alley would have been all of us.
Its Lasting Power
It’s the one series that I can read again and again and still enjoy it. The characters feel like old friends and its always so good to be back at Hogwarts. Even the movies are fantastic adaptations and without fail, every time it snows I get the urge to watch them only to get a glimpse of Hogwarts covered in snow.
I have to agree with putting friendship first on this list of Harry Potter favorites. The friendships in the series, in a world where it seems friends are sometimes lacking in the loyalty department, is a ray of hope!

Fun topic! I agree with them all, especially putting friendship first on your list. Harry Potter is one of those series that is truly about lasting friendship and the lengths you will go for your friends. I love it!!!

I almost did Harry Potter but then stopped myself – I gush about it far too much on the blog haha. I agree with everything in this post, especially the part about its lasting power. That is so true of Harry Potter!!! I could reread it forever and never get bored. You can check my TTT post out here.
Great post! I agree with everything you wrote here. Harry Potter is one of the best books that feature lasting friendships from childhood to adulthood. And how your friends can instantly become your family as well. Love it!

I LOVE YOUR LIST! Harry Potter is the best 🙂 I feel the same, no matter how many times I read HP, I still enjoy it just as much as the first time. If I could live in any book world it would have to be this one, although I would prefer to live in the post-voldy era because I’m a chicken hahaha!

Oh, the HP feels. Time for another re-read I should think.
The friendship between Harry, Hermione and Ron was my most favorite part of the series! It’s great seeing such awesome chemistry between a group of interesting characters.
