four-stars

A heartwarming tale of terror in the middle of the zombie apocalypse.

Meet Sarah and David.

Once upon a time they met and fell in love. But now they're on the verge of divorce and going to couples' counseling. On a routine trip to their counselor, they notice a few odd things - the lack of cars on the highway, the missing security guard, and the fact that their counselor, Dr. Kelly, is ripping out her previous client's throat.

Meet the Zombies.

Now, Sarah and David are fighting for survival in the middle of the zombie apocalypse. But, just because there are zombies, doesn't mean your other problems go away. If the zombies don't eat their brains, they might just kill each other.

‘…I never would have guessed that unlike therapy, unlike the self-help books that littered our apartment at the time, killing zombies would save my relationship.’

Sarah and Dave are having marital problems and have been attending marriage counseling once a week for the past 6 months. On the way to their weekly visit, their session ends up going far differently than the others: their marriage counselor attempts to eat them. After a momentary fight for their lives where their marriage counselor ends up with a stiletto to the head, they realize something is definitely amiss. From that point on, their lives were never quite the same; yet somehow it managed to change their relationship for the better. After the two make plans to leave their home in Seattle and head to Dave’s sisters house, they realize that not only is the world going to shit, but it’s happening quickly.

This was the book that started my zombie crazed love so I’m really quite partial to it, but I couldn’t have started with a better one. It has the perfect mix of blood and guts, sarcastic humor, and demented brain seeking zombies. I loved Sarah and David; they were a perfectly realistic couple just doing what it takes to survive (from the zombies and each other). The chapter titles were a hilarious addition as they were a new ‘suggestion’ with each new chapter.

‘Chapter 2 – Balance the workload in your relationship. No one person should be responsible for killing all the zombies.’

A super fast and enjoyable read that you simply won’t be able to put down! If you’re a fan of zombies, this is a must for you!

Avery Andrews is her name and directing celebrity telethons after tragedies is her game. But the Northwestern Zombie Outbreak isn't your average tragedy... and once the infection spreads to the studio, Avery and her crew will have to worry about staying alive, not ratings.

‘Shambling with the Stars’ is a short story by Jesse Petersen; number 2.5 of her Living with the Dead series. I’m a huge fan of this series. Her zombie series kicks off with Married with Zombies, one of my favorite books of all time.

‘Shambling with the Stars’ opens to character Avery Andrews directing a celebrity telethon for the recent ‘sickness’ outbreak. Her lead host Blake is in the middle of conducting an interview with Dr. Lithstone when he attacks him and begins a chain reaction of reanimation.

This short story definitely leaves you with wanting more awesome zombie action! It’ll be interesting to see if she expands on Avery and Kyle’s characters since this short story definitely leaves you hanging! I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for future novels.

Sarah and David have survived the zombie apocalypse. They stood side by side and fought the undead, mad scientists, and even bionic monsters until the unthinkable happened. A zombie bite. But not even that could stop them. Now, with a possible cure in hand, they're headed east, looking for a safe zone behind the rumored "Wall." They're feeling pretty optimistic.

That is until Dave stops sleeping and starts lifting huge objects.

Eat. Slay. Love.

Because they haven't got a prayer.

Shambling With the Stars (Living with the Dead, #2.5)

Eat, Slay, Love is the perfect continuation of Flip this Zombie . The story automatically picks up from where it left off with David just barely being saved from becoming a zombie himself.

The same funny comments that I’ve become to expect from Jesse Petersen did not disappoint either; however, I do wish that she would change up the story a bit. It’s always: keep heading towards the Wall, pick up supplies, kill some zombies, find some weird random human that will eventually die, find crazy people and get kidnapped, escape from crazy people, continue heading towards the Wall.

Nicole’s character, well… I kept hoping she’d hurry up and get eaten. She was obviously some dumb blonde bimbo and what was up with her constantly doing sexual favors for everyone? It was just weird and didn’t seem to mesh well with the rest of the story.

Overall, I still remain happy with the series and will continue to read whatever Jesse Petersen writes.
