Books Read = 18
Whoops. Posting my month in review after the new month is almost halfway over.Β πΒ Anyways! The first month of the new year was a success in some ways. I didn’t get much reviewing done but I decided to focus solely on reading instead. I knocked out three review books (six in total really, if we’re counting DNFs — those mini-reviews are still to come) andΒ finally got back into the Toby Daye series reading 3-5. I’m on a bit of an urban fantasy roll but February has shown a bit of a focus on mysteries. We’ll see if that continues. π

I remember stumbling upon the first installment of this at the library and not expecting a whole lot but it was such enormous fun. The second installment only gets better.
Least Favorite: Through This House (October Daye #4.5) by Seanan McGuireΒ β

This was only a short story but it was definitely my least “installment” of the Toby series to date. I’m just glad there wasn’t an entire novel centered around this storyline.
Biggest Surprise: Long Way Down by Jason ReynoldsΒ β

I’d been hearing all the raves about this book and I’m always intrigued by anything verse so I gave it a whirl. Wow. What an incredible story.
Biggest Disappointment: Sourdough by Robin SloanΒ β

This still ended up being a decent read but the start of this was so incredibly interesting and fun but the second half of this story was a completely different sort and I was ultimately pretty disappointed.
Bummer, Six of Crows is a DNF? I have yet to read it, but I’ve mostly seen positive reviews. I’ve got to try Lady Killer! Wow 18 books. You are seriously putting me to shame;-)

Yeah… it just didn’t do it for me. Maybe it was the audio, I have no idea.

I hate hearing you DNF’ed Six of Crows. Especially since I got it and The Crooked Kingdom for Christmas. I definitely have to check out Lady Killer! Looks like you had a great month!

I was surprised I didn’t like it either but it could have been the audio. Hope it works out better for you. π

Wow Bonnie you are on a roll with you reading! I only managed to read 7 books in Jan, but like you I have been DNF’ing quite a lot. And for once, I seem to be on top of my review books too (for now!). I hope Feb is a great reading month for you too! π

hahaha February is a bit slower but not as bad as I have been in more recent months. Hope your February is treating you good, Jasprit. π

Lady Killer sounds incredible, and I’m so happy to hear that you’re still gobbling up the Toby Daye books. That series is one of my favourite urban fantasies!

It’s fantastic! I took a bit of a break from it to work on some review books so I don’t fall too far behind but I’m anxious to get back to the next one!

Question on Toby Daye — are the short stories necessary? When at looked at the series list on Goodreads, it seems like there are tons of related stories, and I typically just don’t have the patience. What do you think?
Lisa @ Bookshelf Fantasies recently posted…Take A Peek Book Review: By the Book
I’ve read 4.5 and 5.1 and no, I don’t think they’re necessary. They add a little bit more background to some characters but I’m not sure it’s still necessary. 4.5 is definitely one to skip, but I really enjoyed 5.1… backstory of the Luidaeg.
Bonnie recently posted…Waiting on Wednesday – The Other Miss Bridgerton (Rokesbys #3) by Julia Quinn
Okay, 5.1 sounds like one I should read — I do like the Luidaeg! Another question: have you read the Parasitology books? Do they measure up at all to Newsflesh? I read the first book, but never got around to continuing. I’m wondering if I should go back and try again?
Lisa @ Bookshelf Fantasies recently posted…Take A Peek Book Review: By the Book
Ugh, as much as I hate to say it, the Parasitology books were not good. I read 1, barely got through 2, and dnf’d 3.

That’s what I needed to know! I trust your judgment. π *crossing Symbiont & Chimera off my to-read list*
Lisa @ Bookshelf Fantasies recently posted…Take A Peek Book Review: By the Book
Yeah, it’s unfortunate but they were just not good. Also, since you’re on the Newsflesh train, avoid Feedback (#4) like the plague.
