Showcase Sunday (34)

Posted March 10, 2013 by Bonnie in Sunday Book Haul / 4 Comments

Hello and welcome to Showcase Sunday. The aim of Showcase Sunday is to highlight our newest books or book related swag and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops and downloaded onto eReaders each week. For more information about how this feature works and how to join in, click here.

I utilized the library a great deal this week. I picked up the final two installments that I had to read in Cate Tiernan’s Immortal Beloved series (which I’ve already read and they were pretty great!) plus a couple random books: a book of poetry, a book to appease my obsession with Downton Abbey, and a new audiobook since I was in the mood to just sit back and listen.

The one review book I received is a copy of The House of the Scorpion which came out in 2002. My guess is they’re trying to re-establish interest in this series since the follow-up novel The Lord of Opium is due to be released September 2013, which works for me since I have yet to read it! Heard some fantastic things about it though and it’s won a ton of awards; I really hope I enjoy it.

I really need to watch more of Downtown Abby, I only watched the first couple episodes, it is hard to find quiet time with two little ones! I still haven’t read anything by Cate Tiernan and I need to try her stuff sometime! Have a wonderful week, Bonnie.

  2. I really want to read the IMMORTAL BELOVED series, but my library doesn’t have the first book! Boo! 😛

The House of the Scorpion is one of my favorite science fiction books ever! It’s genius. I hadn’t heard about the sequel but now I’m SO EXCITED. 🙂 I’ll need a reread before September when this second one releases. I really hope you enjoy reading The House of the Scorpion!
