Showcase Sunday (77)

Posted May 4, 2014 by Bonnie in Sunday Book Haul / 8 Comments

I’ve been easing up on the additions to my book collections because unless I quit my job and read for a living (anyone paying people to do that? I’m available.) I have no hope in hell of ever catching up and it’s a bit daunting at times. It doesn’t help that I have yet to get a handle on my library addiction either but I’m happy to say that I’ve stopped requesting ARCs for the most part so, progress. SO! This is my monthly Showcase Sunday showing off the new books I bought, won, got for review, got from the library, etc. I hope everyone is doing well and got lots of new book goodies too! Leave me a link to your post and I’ll be sure to stop by. ๐Ÿ™‚

For Review

ONLY ONE! But I’m extremely excited for this one. The Last Policeman trilogy is about a detective that is still out solving crimes even though there’s an asteroid headed for earth. World of Trouble is the final installment and I can’t wait to see what happens.

Library Checkouts

See what I mean? Too many damn library books. But my excuse is my participation in Bookish Bingo which has been beyond freaking fun! For those of you that joined, how are your cards looking? I’ve been able to check off ย 7 squares for the month of April… only 2 months to go and 17 more squares to complete it! Clockwork Orange was also a buddy read with the lovely Christina.

Okay, I lied. This next one didn’t have anything to do with Bookish Bingo. I decided to give this series another try and holy crap I loved it. Can’t wait to make time in my reading schedule to finish the remaining books. They take a serious time commitment but even if you’re not a fan of fantasy (I am not typically) I still highly recommend this series!

I picked up two new audiobooks in the past month. One I was grateful to get from Christina (different Christina) over at Reader of Fictions. I won her Comment contest for March and I opted for Written in Red which will definitely be my next audio. The second is The Darwin Elevator which I hadn’t heard anything about but it’s blurbed by Kevin Hearne and it’s about ALIENS. Plus, Simon Vance narrates and he’s the man.

Written in Red (The Others #1) by Anne Bishop {Purchase}
The Darwin Elevator (Dire Earth Cycle #1) by Jason M. Hough {Purchase}

I also won a $25 for Christina (back to the first one, lol) @ Christina Reads YAย from helping to celebrate her recent Blogoversary! I haven’t used it all yet but I’ll be using most of it forย the new Gabaldon (btw, have you guys seen the new trailer? So. Excited.)

So I think that’s it! Big thanks to both Christina’s!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  1. I’ve been wanting to start Game of Thrones since my husband got me addicted to the show. I almost never watch before reading, but I never thought I would like the books (or the show) and now realize I have been sorely mistaken. Now if only I could find the time! I’m thinking they might be good summer reads for me.

    And I am SO excited for the Outlander show, but hoping desperately they don’t butcher the books since they are some of my all-time favorites. I can’t believe the new Gabaldon pub date is finally almost here! I am one book behind, but knowing the next one is actually on the horizon might get me to finally read it — I couldn’t bring myself to read it when it first came out (even though I bought it) since it had been a while since I read the first 6 and I knew there would be a long wait for #8, but wait no more!

    • I tried reading the first book immediately after watching the first season and I had a rough time staying interested because it was too similar and I found I was bored since I knew what was going to happen. Enjoyed it a lot more the second time around, maybe because season 1 was a long time ago too. ๐Ÿ™‚

      Outlander is also one of my all time favorites and I will be massively disappointed if they butcher it. I hear Gabaldon had a lot of say so in the show so I have hope. I should really consider doing a re-read of the last book before the new one comes out but I’m not sure I’ll find the time to do that. Hopefully it has a good recap. ๐Ÿ™‚
