I’ve only been on Goodreads since 2011 so, fortunately, I didn’t have to completely rely on my memory to remember what books I read what year. Honestly, what did we do before Goodreads? It was so much fun to scroll through and look at what I’ve read the last decade but crazy to think how long it’s been since I’ve read certain titles. I pulled up my old End of Year surveys and it was interesting to see what I had picked as my favorite for the year and how I ended up changing some because some titles just resonate more with me to this day. 2011 was an awesome year of reading and was by far the hardest favorite to pick. Oddly enough, that was the year I joined Goodreads so that’s totally thanks to finding a whole slew of people I call friends and getting their amazing recommendations. Without further ado, these are my last decade of favorites.
2018: Foundryside (Founders #1) by Robert Jackson Bennett
2017: One Fell Sweep (Innkeeper Chronicles #3) by Ilona Andrews
2016: The Thief of Always by Clive Barker
2015: Dear Mr. You by Mary-Louise Parker
2014: The Girl With All the Gifts by M.R. Carey
2013: The Devil All the Time by Donald Ray Pollock
2012: The Secret History by Donna Tartt
2011: The Collector by John Fowles
2010: Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill
2009: The Wood Wife by Terri Windling
I enjoyed looking back as well. One thing that did strike me though was the amount of series I need to complete! I am really curious about the Sweep books since I feel in love with Ilona Andrews this year after started the Kate Daniels books. I am seeing Foundryside everywhere so I better grab it soon huh?
Oh man, I have so many series I need to complete too. I wish sometimes I’d stay focused and knock them all out in one swoop but I can’t seem to stick with anything like that. lol And yes! Foundryside was a pretty incredible fantasy. 🙂

The Girl with All the Gifts made my list as well. This was a fun exercise but so hard to narrow down!

It really was. And I also went the route of the year I read it not the year of publication which would be an interesting twist.

Great list! I loved Foundryside, and one of these days I’m going to give The Secret History a try.

Foundryside was fantastic! The sequel is one of my most anticipated currently. Hope you enjoy Secret History whenever you do get around to it!

How did we keep track of it all before Goodreads? I wouldn’t remember my favs before that as I read plenty and never wrote it down.

Before Goodreads I actually did used to write my books down! I read so much now that I would totally fall behind. I do love Goodreads.

I haven’t been interested in doing a TTT in a long time, but I am going to do this one. What a great topic. I think we’ll overlap with Pollock and Hill.
I’d like to do a version of this where it’s my favorites from the year that they actually released. It was fun to look back on everything I’ve read though.

I really really like your picks! It’s just super cool to read through the blog posts from that weeks topic. It’s very much fascinating to see how reading tastes may have changed, stayed the same, what favorites are mentioned on several lists etc. I’m mostly interested in your 2009-2013 favorites, those look totally like my kind of thing. Especially The Secret History and The Devil All The Time. Also, I definitely want to read Foundryside this year (and that cover is beautifully magical!)
