Nothing makes a book better than a badass lady. When I first started compiling this list there were so many to choose from, which was refreshing to see, so minimizing this list took some time. I settled on 10 of my favorite ladies from Young Adult lit and Adult lit.
Cotter leaned forward. “Where do you get off being such a bossy bitch?”
I looked him dead in the eyes. “I was born a bossy bitch, so you can either roll with it or get rolled over.”
“Perhaps, deep down inside that rugged shell of yours, there is a little girl desperately waiting for her Prince Charming to propose.”
“Of course there is. Only until now, I’d been pretty successful at keeping that little brat’s mouth shut.”
“Never. Never ask for what ought to be offered.”

He looked up and said, in a loud, plain voice, “She’s not a regular lady.”
“All these boys, all these men, they are something to someone. There are people back home, waiting on them and the waiting ain’t never going to end now. For the rest of my life I am waiting too.”

Darla had been doing something by the fire. Now she returned and began stripping the blanket off me. I grabbed it before she could pull it away from my groin, to preserve my modesty.
“Let go. There’s nothing there I haven’t seen. Who do you think undressed you, anyway? And honestly, I’ve seen better equipment on goats.”
“I wasn’t pretty, but as my mother once said, prettiness wasn’t my profession.”
“My mother always said that I was born out of a bottle of vinegar instead of born from a womb and that she and my father bathed me in sugar for three days to wash it off. I try to behave, but I always go back to the vinegar.”
