Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

Karen Swan and Christmas at Tiffany’s {Review}
This was one of my few 5 star reads of the year and it was so much fluffy fun. Not just your basic chicklit this one managed to surprise me immensely.

Jonathan Stroud and The Screaming Staircase {Review}
I’ve heard of this authors previous series but happened upon this one, picking it up and absolutely adored it. I will most definitely be seeking out his other series now.

Jenni Fagan and The Panopticon {Review}
A brutal depiction of the foster care system in Scotland and the children it’s intended to protect. This was an incredibly difficult read but wow was it ever a memorable one.

Marissa Meyer and Cinder {Review}
Dani and I finally talked ourselves into reading this series and boy am I ever glad we did. Blew away all prior expectations I had and I can’t wait to pick up the subsequent installments.

M.R. Carey and The Girl With All the Gifts {Review}
This one was a surprise in my mailbox and one of the lovelier surprises by far. Those of you that know my immense love of zombie fiction, take note: this is quite possibly one of my all-time favorites.

A.G. Riddle and The Origin Mystery
I grabbed this book during my free Kindle Unlimited trial purely because it had “Atlantis” in the title. I spent the next week devouring the entire series. Riddle is an excellent mystery writer, and this series was a captivating view on alternate history.

Andy Weir and The Martian
This book was awesome, awesome, awesome! Weir is totally gifted. He walked a fine line between humor and thriller. It isn’t often that I’m hooked on the first page, and I so was.

Robin Sloan and Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore
Robin Sloan took me on an adventure that I just didn’t want to end. I love how he created a magical world out of ordinary, everyday things. I am also hoping the bookstore I frequent has a secret society I can be voted into. Hint, hint Grassroots, hook a girl up already!

Rainbow Rowell and Attachments
The dear Miss B got me hooked on Rainbow Rowell this summer with Landline, and then I absolutely fell in love with RR because of Attachments. Beth and Jennifer remind me of, well, me and Bonnie! Thanks to a rather mundane job, I found a wonderful friend that I spend hours chit-chatting with. Over the past few months, I’ve read everything Rainbow and enjoyed all of it so completely.

Lena Dunham and Not That Kind of Girl
I’m no stranger to Lena Dunham. I’m a big fan of Girls and have seen her movies, which are equally honest in sharing a wide range of experiences for today’s “young woman.” I’m thankful to have strong female voices readily available and talking/writing openly about modern feminism.

  1. Rainbow Rowell also made my list. I loved Fangirl and devoured it within a day. Then I read Attachments and just fell in love with her writing even more. Loved Cinder too! The Martian looks so good! Great list, lots of authors here I need to pick up and read!
