Top Ten Tuesday – Top Series I Want To Start

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

I know I am not the only one with a mountain of books that are firsts in a series. Seems like all new books these days are a part of a series! Makes it dreadfully to stay on top of them all. The below picks are our top 5 series reads we wish to start, sooner rather than later. Be sure to leave the link to your post!

Mistborn: The Final Empire (Mistborn #1) by Brandon Sanderson {Purchase}
I haven’t read a lot of fantasy but this series has been HIGHLY recommend. I keep waiting to hopefully someday finish the Game of Thrones series so I can fully commit to another new series. (Soon, I’m on the last book.) But this sounds phenomenal. I can’t wait.

Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass #1) by Sarah J. Maas {Purchase}
Another fantasy series I need to catch up on. Though the idea of Cinderella being a kick-ass assassin makes me eager to get my hands on this one for sure.

The Monstrumologist (The Monstrumologist #1) by Rick Yancey {Purchase}
Ooooh HORROR. I have become quite the fan of horror novels realizing I love being scared by books but you couldn’t pay me to watch a horror movie. “Monstrumologist” is apparently someone who studies monsters which sounds awesome plus it’s got a Victorian feel which is always a yes for me.

Unholy Ghosts (Downside Ghosts #1) by Stacia Kane {Purchase}
I adore Urban Fantasy and whenever I think of series in that genre I haven’t started, this is at the top of the list. I’ve even started this before, got to 10%, and set it aside because I had more pressing books to read. I enjoyed that 10% too! Why I haven’t picked it up again is a mystery but I fully intend to do so… someday.

The Spirit Thief (The Legend of Eli Monpress #1) by Rachel Aaron {Purchase}
After reading Fortune’s Pawn last year and adoring it, I was intent on reading anything and everything by this author. This series is completely different, more fantasy and less sci-fi, but I just got my hands on a copy and cannot wait to make time for it.

Moon Called (Mercy Thompson #1) by Patricia Briggs {Purchase}
As a former Washingtonian, I have a special connection to books set in the Pacific Northwest. Throw in a strong leading lady, werewolves, vampires and the possibility of romance, and I am sold.

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency (Dirk Gently #1) by Douglas Adams {Purchase}
I have been a fan of Douglas Adams on many hikes throughout the galaxy, but this series was completely unknown to me until sharing my “lesser-known favorites of famous authors” list with a fellow sci-fi fan. The book’s blurb promises threat of human extinction, a murder mystery and lots of pizza.

Born in Fire (Born In #1) by Nora Roberts {Purchase}
I recently read my first Nora Roberts novel (Chasing Fire) and loved the major change from my usual genres of science fiction and thrillers. I was drawn to this series in particular because of the description of three sisters that so closely matches me and my two sisters.

The Eyre Affair (Thursday Next #1) by Jasper Fforde {Purchase}
I love the idea of my favorite characters being plucked right out of their own books. In the first installment of the Thursday Next series, Jane Eyre is kidnapped and a literary detective must track her down by going into the story herself. Did I mention Thursday has a dodo as a pet?

The Sword in the Stone (The Once and Future King #1) by T.H. White {Purchase}
We all know the story of the young boy who becomes king by pulling a magical sword from a stone, but who has actually read it? Not me.  I love myth and folklore, I love retellings and humble heroes, and I love talking animals. Bring it on T.H. White.

  1. Ooh, I want to read Throne of Glass and The Spirit Thief too! And The Eyre Affair sounds like so much fun! Time travel, literary references, futuristic things, all in one novel! I hadn’t heard of it before, so thank you for sharing!

  2. I have rad Mistborn -though only the first one- and Throne of Glass -currently reading Heir of Fire- and they are both amazing! I am a huge fantasy lover, and these did not disappoint.

    The Spirit Thief,the Monstrumologist and The Eyre Affair are all on my to-be-read list, but I am not sure when I will get to them, since my TBR is huuuuge!

    I hope you will end up loving them -when you do read them.
