Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish
I’m always a sucker for books with a Gothic aspect. The intense atmosphere generated, the unease, and the ongoing suspense. I find it quite lovely. 🙂 These are just a few of my favorite Gothic Novels:

The Lantern by Deborah Lawrenson {Purchase}
Long Lankin by Lindsey Barraclough {Purchase}

The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson {Purchase}
The Woman in Black by Susan Hill {Purchase}

The Tale of the Body Thief (The Vampire Chronicles #4) by Anne Rice {Purchase}
A Great and Terrible Beauty (Gemma Doyle #1) by Libba Bray {Purchase}
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Süskind {Purchase}

GREAT topic – Gothic novels seem to be on the rise again, so it's great to have some new title to suggest to readers. I like that you put Perfume on your list -I enjoyed it as well when I read it.
Oooh, I've only read a few of these but great picks. Long Lankin creeped me out in the best way! That poem in the beginning.. *shivers*
And I love that you're a Kearsley fan! Mariana remains my favorite of the two I've read. I'm really excited for The Firebird to come out later this year, as well.
I definitely need to read more Gothic novels – esp. since Perfume has popped up on a few of your lists!
I don't know that I've even read ten gothic novels, let along chose my favorite ten. I guess I need to write down some of these names! I have read Rebecca and I ended up liking the Hitchcock movie better than the book. Too many descriptions for me and I couldn't stand Mr. DeWinter, he was a jerk for most of the novel. I have A Great and Terrible Beauty, I just need to read it. 🙂
I love A Great and Terrible Beauty! Have you read Libba Bray's newest book, The Diviners?? That one takes dark and creepy to a whole new level.

I didn't like The Lantern very much, but Long Lankin is amazing and I was just talking about it yesterday on Facebook! Such a creepy book and a great pick for this list. I need to read a lot of these still though.

Perfume is one of my all-time favorites. It's usually on a huge variety of my Top Ten Lists but I couldn't leave it out. 🙂
Long Lankin was crazy creepy!
Love Kearsley. I've only read two as well, the other being The Rose Garden. I snagged a copy of The Shadowy Horses, that will likely be my next one!
Yeah, Perfume shows up a lot. Lol Definitely one of my all-time favs though.
Yes, The Diviners was quite creepy as well but A Great and Terrible Beauty holds a special place in my heart. 😀
You know, I have never watched the movie! I think I need to get on that!
Long Lankin was super creepy, I keep hoping that author will write something new soon!
I think a few of these are honestly more Gothic-esque but is good enough for me to end up on this list. 🙂
Yes, Long Lankin is pretty fantastic. Perfume is an all-time favorite but is quite a shocking read. Rebecca is a gothic classic, I'd recommend that one as well. 🙂
To quote Charley, I suck more ass than liposuction! I haven't read any of these, ANY! I own Libba Bray's book, but most of the others I've never even heard of. It's because I'm a giant wuss.
Thanks for sharing, Bonnie!
I love your choice of topic since I have recently discovered I love gothic books! A few of these I already have, but didn't quite realize they fell into that category — now knowing that they do makes me want to bump them to the top of my list!
I have read The Woman in Black — it wouldn't make any favorites lists for me, but it was a very enjoyable, creepy read.

Okay, I haven't read *any* of these, and it is now very clear that I need more Gothic novels in my life! Where the heck to start?! Maybe Long Lankin. Or Perfume (LOVE that cover!).

Oooh, good list! You've got some books I love on there, plus at least one (Affinity) that I've been wanting to get to for practically eons! Have to go check out the rest of the books on your list IMMEDIATELY.

I absolutely love the Gemma Doyle trilogy — so rich! I haven't heard of any of the other books you said, but I'll have to check them out 🙂
A Great and Terrible Beauty has a lovely cover!
Hooray for Long Lankin! Definitely one of the creepiest, most all-consuming and gripping gothic novels I've ever read. And Rebecca's one of my favourite books, so YAY DU MAURIER! Ooooh, and Perfume! Oh yes, I'm liking this list very much. In other news: I've been meaning to read The Woman in Black for about three years now, so I should probably get on that… y'know… soon…. 🙂
