Waiting on Wednesday – Bellman and Black: A Ghost Story by Diane Setterfield

Hi everybody! Thanks for stopping by. Today’s post is ‘Waiting on Wednesday’ which is a weekly blog feature hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we’re super excited about.
Bellman and Black: A Ghost Story
by Diane Setterfield
Expected publication: November 5th 2013 by Atria/Emily Bestler Books
As a boy, William Bellman commits one small, cruel act: killing a bird with his slingshot. Little does he know the unforeseen and terrible consequences of the deed, which is soon forgotten amidst the riot of boyhood games. By the time he is grown, with a wife and children of his own, William seems to be a man blessed by fortune—until tragedy strikes and the stranger in black comes. Then he starts to wonder if all his happiness is about to be eclipsed. Desperate to save the one precious thing he has left, William enters into a rather strange bargain, with an even stranger partner, to found a decidedly macabre business.
And Bellman & Black is born.
This one is surprisingly short (224 pages!) but it’s a ghost story so of course I want to read it.

What are you waiting on this Wednesday?

I haven't read The Thirteenth Tale (I know, I know, I need to) but I've heard some fantastic things about this author. Can't wait. 🙂

Ooooh this sounds super intense! I am definitely curious about the stranger in black – I already have a prediction for the ending and I am going to have to see if I'm right!

  4. The cover drew me in but the plot line captured my interest. And what makes it even better is that there are ghosts involved 🙂 Great pick!

  5. I am SOOOO waiting for this. I'm a huge fan of her debut novel. I loved it, loved it, loved it! A little disappointed, actually, that this is so short. Her first book was way back in 2006! She made me wait so long for 224 pages?! Okay, enough. Thanks, Bonnie 😀

Oh, I'm waiting to get my copy of Siege and Storm.

  7. Oh I was sure I commented! Well, if this is a double comment then yay! I absolutely loved Setterfield's debut novel. I'm sad, though, that this is so short! What a long wait for such a small book. But I'm sure it packs a lot of great atmosphere. CANNOT WAIT!! Thanks, Bonnie for reminding me 🙂
